“I grew up slowly and I grew up wrong…” begins the infectious chorus to Concrete Floor, a well-coordinated, driving song, lyrically clever and clear, grounded in piano rhythms ala Sara Bareillis but way darker and complemented by weird synthetic keyboard effects and bass guitar. All of the songs seem to include confessions of culpability. Somehow, assuming the guilt effectively exonerates the antagonist.
Will Wadsworth is that character, the drummer and lead vocalist. Jojo’s on piano, Gregg on synth and guitar and Marcus on bass. All sing.
Divine Intervention is a deja-vu experience directed by an eerie techno keyboard lead.
Little Flower is a kind of bittersweet, semi-atonal, groaning love song.
Funky Stevie Wonder keys open up You Know Better, which also highlights just the right amount of nice xylophone sound, banjo and group harmonies.
