Rumspringa, a musical duo of 2 super-creative graphic arts guys who met at CalArts, takes its name from the Amish version of a tribal walkabout. On runabout, the very MGMT-like duo – Joey on guitar/vocals and Itaru on drums – entwines heavy guitar influences from old bluesmen (Hooker in particular) with a looping pedal and a love of fuzztone and then braids that strand with rootsy drum rhythm and an enunciative vocal delivery descended from psychedelic eccentric Michael Yonkers.
Self proclaimed hip hop enthusiasts, they’re looking to create their own sound using all the tools and toys available to them while standing on the shoulders of myriad genres and greats who walked before them. They say their mission is to …”get back to the heart of discovering the soul of rock through the roots of its creation.”
Genuinely entrenched in exploring and innovating a Rumspringa sound and offering it artistically through all possible media, the pair is solid and unpretentious. They’re the kinds of friends you’d want to call when your house is ablaze, heaven forbid.
