Multi-instrumentalist cyclone funded by boundless reserves of bouncy energy, Theresa Andersson is a phenomenon to behold.
We were stoked to have New Orleans artist Theresa and her crew, manager Alex and husband Arthur, in for a live session one recent Monday afternoon. They were running on fumes from late touring hours and a hearty schedule, but their spirits were high, and why not?! Longtime artist, Theresa has become a sudden darling of the public eye. Within a brief spell, her NaNaNa video became a viral sensation on YouTube, she flew to New York and recorded with David Byrne for his latest project (a collection of songs based on the life of Imelda Marcos, the shoe-hoarding former first lady of the Phillipines), and she appeared on Conan O’Brien’s Late Night show.
Andersson exudes calm strength as the center of her own fierce and playful storm. A natural performer, the onslaught of attention stokes her blazing talent, emanating not just cutely, but in powerfully accurate, soulfully belted vocals, as in On Your Way Down and instrumental mastery, particularly smokin’ on violin. The Waltz effortlessly combines and highlights Theresa’s innumerable musical gifts, creating a pillowy dreamscape to lose yourself to.
