Black Moth Super Rainbow Tour, Video, mp3s! Born on a Day the Sun Didn’t Rise; Dark Bubbles Video

photo by jae rubertoFirst things first, it’s hard for me not to love a band that goes by the name Black Moth Super Rainbow.

Their lo-fi, writhy grooves have stepped up to a studio album debut (complete with live drummer), Eating Us (May 26th, 2009, Graveface), a recording they call their ‘dark bubblegum freakout for 2009′ produced by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips).

Here’s the track from the new release, Eating Us, which sits among ten other juicy nuggets from Bubble Gum Animals to Tooth Decay:

Now, for the video, super lo-tech interactive fun along the lines of an Ed Wood movie: Dark Bubbles.

If you’ve got a spare 25 minutes or so, visit here for a delectable banquet of samplings from the BMSR bounty that stretch from 2003 to now. Luscious mutant jams, like this live version of Trees and Colors and Wizards (2006), merry-go-round mausoleums like Sun Lips (2007), pokey sundrenched electrorockers like Vietcaterpillar (one of my favorites), over-the-top crunchy agro Happy Melted City (2008) and bubbly space ditties like Boatfriend (2003).

On second thought, take the next 25 minutes to give yourself an awesome gift and support the band that cannot help but go ridiculously overboard (yep, they’re selling hairy CD covers at select indie record stores in hand-crafted displays that look like this…i’m not joking) by going HERE, their complete catalogue. You cannot go wrong by purchasing every single record there. I’m serious.

Black Moth Super Rainbow transcends novelty, emblemizing instead the chunky core of necessary out-there freedom of a new era. Hooray!
