Lessons in the Woods…National Park Bingo and an Mp3 Mishmash

Goth Star [mp3]Pictureplane from Dark Rift (Lovepump United, 8/09)

Pictureplane, the “24-year-old weirdo performance artist Travis Egedy,” plays the Troubadour September 9th in LA. His upcoming LP from Lovepump is super juicy. Go over to Lovepump and see what they’re up to. Lots of exciting news including a debut EP from DERADOORIAN.

Traveling, I suppose it’s no surprise that internet services have been a challenge to locate in the midst of the Giant Forest among black bears, international tourists and trees over 3000 years old. Ironically, at Grace’s request, we found ourselves dwarfed by Sequoias giving a good listen to Talbot Tagora‘s latest, Lessons in the Woods or a City (Hardly Art, 7/09). The package, by the way, is interesting, including a neat, hand-drawn poster bearing semi-cryptic lyrics. Oh, and there’s a cool yellow and black sticker inside. The sound is open head, pour in wall of didactic, jarring, jangly and occasionally slightly grinding. Feels more like the message you’d hear in an urban underground waterway amidst homeless-by-choice, rats and graffiti than words spoken by wise nature dwellers. No matter, though. It’s good. Listen to their single, Ichthus Hop, below.

Ichthus Hop [mp3] - Talbot Tagora from Lessons in the Woods or a City (Hardly Art, 7/09)

A sampling of mp3s from artists who have recently been in the studio for Luxury Wafers Sessions (soon to be released!):

Dreamer [mp3]Tiny Vipers from Life On Earth (SubPop, 7/09)

Changing [mp3]Moondoggies from Don’t Be A Stranger (Hardly Art, 8/08)

Black Umbrella [mp3] - Luluc from Dear Hamlyn (8/09)

Pink Light [mp3]Laura Veirs from Saltbreakers (Nonesuch, 6/07)

We hear Yosemite is plugged in to the World Wide Web. Hopefully you’ll be hearing more from us tonight!
