Sweet Jane [mp3] Cowboy Junkies (Velvet Underground cover), live version

Cocaine and Ashes [mp3] – Son Volt

Down to the Wire [mp3] - Son Volt

Just in LA at the Wiltern last night, continuing a non-stop tour through the end of September, two oldies but goodies: Cowboy Junkies and Son Volt.

Son Volt’s got a new record out: American Central Dust (Rounder, 7/7/09).

The last from Cowboy Junkies was Trinity Revisited (Zoe Records, 10/16/07): twenty years after the wildly embraced Trinity Sessions, Cowboy Junkies reconvened to play the same songs. The Trinity Revisited recordings are accompanied by a 45 minute DVD documentary.

These guys are all sleepy, but sometimes that can be a good thing. If you need a little shot in the arm, check out this rousing video – Son Volt live at Austin City Limits way back with Dave Boquist prominently featured on guitar. Great sound.

The Son Volt clip is actually from 1996, not 2006. A minor point, to be sure.
