Tim Exile, also known simply as Exile, recently came in for a visit from his current home in Berlin to perform and record a high-energy, experimental/electronic improvisational set live in the studio with us. Surrounded by his computers and keyboards, faders and knobs, you might not guess that Exile (aka Tim Shaw), originally from the UK, is a classically trained violinist with a degree in philosophy. After hearing how he programmed his own software to get optimally desired DJ effects, you’ll easier assimilate his masters degree in electroacoustic composition from Durham University and his work for the Native Instruments company.
Exile’s genres span D&B, IDM, breakcore and gabber. His March 09 release, Listening Tree, is out on Warp Records. Former labels include Moving Shadow, John B‘s Beta Recordings and Mike Paradinas‘ Planet Mu.
While Tim’s music is a bit outside the box of most Luxury Wafers sessions, it’s fun and we’re stoked to share with you. We dug Tim’s clever wit, comfortable style and fresh energy. Check out the videos and tracks below. Oh, and beware, Thank You & Goodnight has explicit lyrics.
