LA’s Division Day headed in a new direction on their latest album, a direction concertedly marked by dark and eerie undertones and the addition of technological gear to their repertoire. Describing the style, they say, “We’re calling it post-industrial blackened romantigaze.” Though the subject matter is thematcially death and devil-focused, the sound is attractively cool. The band came and recorded a handful of songs from their most recent album, Visitation (8/18/09, Dangerbird), which was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Nine Inch Nails, Beck). It was a tight set. The guys were down to earth and lots of fun, even inviting our crew to join in on tambourine for a song or two.
