Noted from the git as noisy and belligerent, Mannequin Men from Chicago visited us with a boyish slurry of rusty garage rock-original punk, rife with honest and clever lyrics cultured in a stinky bedroom under some kind of influence. Maybe the earliness had an impact (it was 11 in the morning), but the guys were pretty mellow and certainly awesome fun to hang with during their Luxury Wafers session. A straight-up 4 piece led vocally by Kevin Richard, who ranges from clear and swoony to pained and tired, complemented by additive backup vocals from the crew (guitarist Ethan d’Ercole, drummer Seth Bohn, and bassist Miles Raymer), Mannequin Men humbly endear while they invite listeners in to their imperfectly real lives. Perhaps it’s my own screwed up history, but for me, the band’s sound is comfortably home. They have a knack for being right no matter what the mood. Take these live tunes with you in your mobile collection and enjoy on the road, while you work, study, party … whatever.
