Luxury Wafers Exclusive: Davila 666 live @ Kingsize Soundlabs with Video and Mp3s

by Landry on April 23, 2010

Puerto Rican garage-punk, party rockers, Davila 666, dropped into Kingsize Soundlabs for Luxury Wafers back in October, loaded with cavalier flair and magnetic machismo. For this super fun session, the notorious group of 6 left off their hallmark exotic dancers and theatrical props to do live studio recording with us. Even without their sensational live show hullabaloo, the Davilas were a high-energy hoot. Self-described as ‘Menudo on drugs’, the guys of Davila 666 cite idols Iggy, Otis, Dolls, Spector and Dead Boys as influential in their style and writing, which covers topics including sex, drugs, backalleys and the like.

Luckily, we had Carlos in the control room translating the band’s rapid fire Spanglish, assisting in spelling song titles and shedding a little light on the stories behind a few of the songs. We learned that ‘La Pingo,’ as they were calling it, was written about two girls who go to all the shows. Apparently ‘pingo’ means penis, but Carlos assured us that when put together as ‘pingorocha,’ the word conveys no offense. I had to look up the meaning of ‘rocha’ – in Portuguese it means boulder or rock. You can put the two together for yourself. Meanwhile, in the tracking room, Carlitos was launching comments about the girl’s brown sweater. Needless to say, with Davila 666 in the house, the studio was rife with lively, good-natured virility.

All the guys were a blast, easily working and playing together as a pack. Lead singer,Carlitos, shared his excitement for touring with his long-time favorite band, The Spits. And he was super stoked to discover the studio’s Italian Vox Phantom Bass with built in fuzz hanging on the wall – the very same bass that’s inked on his arm. We made sure to get a picture (see the gallery below).

Here’s where you’ll find album recordings of the songs from their live session: Basura, Callejon and  Muy Chistoso are on their self-titled release, Davila 666 [Vinyl] (8/26/08, In The Red). La Killer B*tch (which we understood as La Killel Bitch!) is from their 12″ EP [explicit] (Rob’s House Records, 4/27 2010). Pingorocha y La Diva Rockera and Me Va Muy Mal are on a 3 song EP, Pingorocha Y La Diva Rockera, out on Douchemaster (9/3/09).

We hope you catch a buzz of Davila 666 fun with the video and mp3s below. Maybe we’ll see you at their show sometime!
