Butch Norton and Peter Malick are longtime friends and lifelong players. When the two get together it’s always shenanigans of the best variety. Part mad scientist, part steady mountain, Butch (Eels, Lucinda Williams) enlivens anything from a standard drum kit to fancy specialized percussion instruments to appliance parts. With inexhaustible awe, Butch hears opportunity for rhythm and resonance in everything, everywhere he goes. Part old bluesman down with a singular, unfettered groove, part wide-eyed, a la mode adventurer, Peter (John Lee Hooker, Norah Jones) interweaves authentic blues roots with sense-driven passion and a penchant for the newfangled, riding super-grungy electric guitars, making vintage acoustics purr and delightfully animating dobro. What began as a series of organic, off-the-cuff sessions at Chessvolt Studios between the two has transformed into their upcoming 17 track release, Duets From The Spin-Dry Cycle. Until that meaty album arrives, enjoy these videos of the guys playing live in the studio. Jump down to downloadable live mp3s.
