Spencer Livingston

GROW, Spencer Livingston’s debut solo release (produced by Peter Malick), romps through the backwoods of L.A. folk-Americana style. It’s a Wilco/Tom Petty-inspired, easy-going yet thought-provoking, alt-rock exploration. Spencer’s sensitive lyrics, warm guitar and disarmingly familiar voice seem to pine for a simpler space and time right now.

Los Angeles native Spencer Livingston grew up on a steady diet of rock Americana. His early love of Neil Young and Tom Petty was reinforced by a strong dose of Wilco. Son of an actor and from a family of singers, Spencer is a natural performer. And though he was born and raised on the hem of Hollywood, Livingston has been nourished by a down-to-earth, artistic community supportive of his naturally rootsy inclination. Says Livingston, “I definitely come from a very musical family who exposed me to a really wide variety of music with everything from The Beatles to Woody Guthrie. As far as the way I write, I do most of my writing by just observing things as I go through life. Sometimes I just have an idea that pops into my head when I am going through my day and I write it down. It is as simple as that.”

At a still-tender age, Spencer’s voice resounds as that of an old soul.

Spencer’s solo debut, GROW (out July 16th, 2013), features Milk Carton Kids’ Ken Pattengale playing steel guitar and mandolin on the neo-protest song, Have A Little Faith.
