Luxury Wafers Exclusive: Throw Me The Statue, Live@Chessvolt Studios with Video and Mp3s

I like Throw Me The Statue. A lot. My original take on their tunes was ahh - easy, gentle. A little blurry. Palatably opioid. After our session with TMTS, I revisited the band's available info and found the clencher: an ingenious Huey Lewis cover of If This Is It. Huey Lewis. Really?! You can hear it at TMTS's myspace page. Go ahead. I'll wait. This interpretation, especially in the choruses, which flow dreary and dreamy and ooze a subtle diffusion of warmth, encapsulates the subdued evil-bordering twistiness and alluring charm of Scott Reitherman and his band, Throw Me The Statue. From Seattle, TMTS generates understated, lukewarm pop-fickles - part comforting hug, part loner cool - reflective of their native watery weather.
Reitherman's voice emerges precious yet fully masculine, detachedly telling interesting - different - lyrics which float within effectively minimal arrangements. The group chimes in at just the right times with delicate harmonies. Adornment is spare - tinkly glockenspiel, synth organ keys, concise strums of acoustic guitar, a few shakes of tamborine stealthily placed. There's a flow. Reitherman sounds as though he could be thinking aloud, talking to himself without really wanting any other being to acknowledge. Like a glass pane on a winter day, TMTS allows simultaneous access into two worlds: that of the little bird who perches in the window sill, carrying a single, bright-red-berry-topped twig in it's beak amidst the drizzle and freeze outside; and that of the cozy, longing individual perched on the inside who looks out to watch existence around himself.
