Luxury Wafers Exclusive: Great Northern, Live@Chessvolt Studios

Über hip LA locals, Great Northern, visited us for a live Luxury Wafers Session, spreading a cool darkness and transforming our studio temporarliy into a spooky crypt with their searing, somber intensity. Singer Rachel Stolte led most of the set vocally with the aggressive sass of power rocker, Pat Benetar. Together with Solon Bixler, the pair creates an effective synergy in duet, each challenging the other to ramp up the angst in these live versions from their latest recording, Remind Me Where the Light Is
Great Northern's foundation of black in attire set the tone of severity for the session, while Bixler's quiet demeanor and pale, pale skin would lead one to believe he is, in fact, a vampire. I suppose there's no better place than LA for super rocker vampires. Whether they're mortal or not, we were honored to have these well-loved community heroes, Great Northern, as our guests. And stoked to post them on Halloween. Boo!
The tracks came out great - driving and electrified with full-bodied instrumentation and moody effects, still heavy-duty and engaging emotionally yet less screetchy and in-your-face than the new record. All are tightly wound, sharp performances. Go listen and enjoy for yourself.

This has to be one of my favorite bands right now. Their writing and production style merges so many different thoughts and styles that I simply cannot get enough of their music. I cannot wait to catch them live, hopefully this winter or spring.
