Luxury Wafers Exclusive: The Mother Hips, Live@Chessvolt Studios with Video and mp3s

The Mother Hips weren't born yesterday. That's part of their allure. These guys, authentic to the bone, are the fiery wilderness of rock 'n' roll music - two guitars going off weighted by a fat bass anchor and a humbly steady yet searing foundation of drums, all serving up a crunchy, dirty groove-biscuit iced by sweet, reflective harmonies that are heartily spiked with tasty substance. The Mother Hips, tattooed on their souls as true blue musicians, have been at this craft for a while - writing, playing and singing songs about life and the real stuff in it. They never exploded to commercial phenomenon, they don't sell out and they've never lost their heart or their aim. Tim Bluhm and his crew make music that fills you up like organic comfort food savored oustide a stone cabin on a mountaintop surrounded by soaring pines, limitless sky and forever distance in every direction. Listening makes you feel good - a straight shot of freedom with your feet on the ground.

A gritty vortex, the title track from their newest album, Pacific Dust (10/26/09, Camera Records), sounds as though Jefferson Airplane tripped through a rabbit hole and landed in King Crimson's kitchen next to Crosby Stills and Nash. In other words, it's dig-down-to-your-gut good. White Falcon Fuzz carves its initials inside your skin right off the bat and demands repeated attention. Every listen reveals a shinier nugget of California golden goodness. For sure a new favorite, White Falcon Fuzz offers hazy retrospect charged with earthy, romantic, bliss for life-as-it-is anew.

Origins: A past favorite, the original recording for Time-Sick Son of a Grizzly Bear can be found on Kiss the Crystal Flake (2007, Camera). All other songs are from The Mother Hips' brand-spanking-new album, Pacific Dust (10/26/09, Camera Records).
