Luxury Wafers Exclusive: The Happy Hollows Live@Chessvolt Studios

The Happy Hollows are strange in the best way. Evoking the shock-essence of Bowie's Space Oddity had David Byrne delivered the lyrics, LA's The Happy Hollows throw and keep you off-guard, shaking open a crack in the head into which they inject slicey, rust-edged razor blades of songs.

Sarah Negahdari, the main writer and eccentric artiste in the band, leads on guitar with scream-freaky vocals on Silver, on the more tamely melodic, super-infectiously hook-laden Monster Room and on the catchy fun We Will Find You, which she embellishes with varied voices from the scream to talk to deep and breathy. Charlie Mahoney on bass also sings backups and leads Delorean vocally, leaning subtly into Mothersbaugh's Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA territory. Chris Hernandez steadily drives it all forward on drums.
