Vermont dweller Kris Gruen is a poet, songwriter and musician. Son of famed photographer Bob Gruen, Kris grew up in NYC accustomed to hanging in the hearth with musical icons.

As a grown young man with his own family now, Gruen spins beauty from metaphorical, sometimes cryptic, poetic stories just as the fair maiden transformed straw to gold in goblin tales of yore.

Gruen's allure lies in spacious simplicity. Softly, quietly, Kris Gruen paints a lovely world. His voice carries the serene feeling of early Beatles ala McCartney's Blackbird. Perhaps there was a sort of transmission taking place when pops was keeping company with the gang.

Accompanied by sharp accordian, Gruen tells what seems like an encoded teaching of a tale with Abderrahman, a song written with a Moroccan poet in mind.

Driving Snow sweetly appeals, '...please dont leave, please don't go, if you are lost I'll find you, rain, wind or driving snow...' - a beautiful lullaby of a love song.

Nuschka is a fascinating story of falling in love with a woman in an antique black and white photo, most reminiscent in vibe of Blackbird.

On the upbeat side is Part Of It All.
